We offer music therapy, speech pathology, and occupational therapy, as well as assessments and group programs. Our services are available across the lifespan — from early childhood through to older adulthood.

We have two main clinics on the Gold Coast — in Southport and Varsity Lakes — and also see clients at partner sites in Tweed Heads. We provide outreach services across Queensland and northern NSW, and telehealth is also available, anywhere in Australia. From January 2026, we will be commencing music therapy services in Townsville, too.

No — while many of our clients are children and families, we also support adolescents, adults, and older adults, including people with disability, mental health needs, and age-related conditions such as dementia or Parkinson’s disease.

You can contact us directly to make a booking — no referral is needed. However, some clients choose to access our services through funding schemes such as the NDIS or Medicare (via a GP referral).

No, QPAH is a not a registered NDIS provider. We support self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants, only.

NDIS: Music therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy.
Medicare:
With a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP) referral, you may be eligible for partial rebates for speech and occupational therapy.
With a paediatrician or psychiatrist’s Care Plan: Manage complex neurodeveopmental disorders and eligible disabilities, you may be eligible for up to 8 assessment sessions and 20 treatment sessions once in your lifetime. You must meet certain eligibility criteria.
Private Health Insurance: Some funds cover allied health services including speech pathology and occupational therapy. Please check with your provider.
Private (self-funded): All services are available for direct payment.
Home Care Package & Support At Home Program – Music therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy are all available via these programs for older people.

Yes! We run a variety of group programs throughout the year including Singchronous (our all-abilities choir), Tweedle Tunes early childhood music groups, and Therapy Club (during school holidays).

Your first appointment usually involves an intake interview and assessment, where we take the time to get to know you or your child, understand your goals, and develop a personalised therapy plan.

You can call our friendly Client Care Team, email us, or submit an enquiry through our website. We’ll guide you through the intake process and match you with the most suitable clinician.

Yes, telehealth is available for many of our services. It’s a great option for people living in rural or remote areas or for those who prefer online sessions. QPAH has a dedicated telehealth speech pathologist.

We require 48 hours’ notice for cancellations to avoid a cancellation fee. Late cancellations or non-attendance will incur the full fee. We do our best to be flexible, and in some cases a make-up or non-face-to-face session can be arranged.

Yes — our team regularly provides workshops and training for teachers, early childhood educators, aged care providers, and allied health professionals on a wide range of topics within our scope of practice.

Yes, we are proud to support the next generation of allied health professionals. Our clinicians supervise students from Griffith University (Speech Pathology) and the University of Melbourne (Music Therapy), and we welcome enquiries about placements or work experience.

Yes – music therapy sn evidence-based allied health profession and is a funded therapy support under the NDIS category, Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living. This is the same budget all other therapies are funded from.

Treatment duration depends on your needs and goals, your diagnosis, the severity of your impairments, your past medical history, and other factors. Re-evaluations will be done to assess your progress and your therapist communicates with other stakeholders to help you achieve your therapy goals.

That all depends! If you are flexible with your appointment times, you are likely to get in much sooner than if you are only available before or after school. These peak appointment times have waiting lists of a least 3 months.

QPAH offers home visits when a clinical need is identified and the clinician’s timetables allow. Due to our busy schedules it can be difficult to allocate additional time to travel, so we are unable to offer home visits based on client preference.

All of QPAH’s services are covered under the NDIS. If you require our support and are not eligible for the NDIS, please talk to your GP about an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) referral. Both speech and occupational therapy are able to be accessed via an EPC, at a subsidised rate for up to 5 sessions in total, across a 12-month period of time. If you have extras cover in your private health insurance, you can use this to access speech and occupational therapy once your EPC has run out.
Music therapy is only able to be accessed via the NDIS. Medicare and private health insurers do not cover music therapy.

Any age – no child is too young! Children’s development starts from birth and our therapists are trained to pre-empt and assess developmental milestones before they are overtly achieved. Early intervention is key and there is rarely a need to ‘wait and see’.

No, the QPAH team can assess and treat without referral by a doctor. However, if you are not on the NDIS and wish to receive a Medicare subsidy, you will be required to obtain an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) referral from your GP. EPC’s do not cover Music Therapy.

In particular reference to music therapy and speech pathology, research highlights the advantages of combining these two disciplines. In particular, the use of music can support sustained attention and longer periods of engagement, making therapy sessions more productive, further supporting children to achieve their goals.

Music therapy is a research-based allied health profession in which music is used to actively support people as they aim to improve their health, functioning and wellbeing. It can help people of all ages to manage their physical and mental health and enhance their quality of life.
You don’t need to be musical to take part in or benefit from music therapy. Qualified music therapists plan and provide musical experiences for their clients. Each session is tailored to the needs and goals of the client.
Music therapists are committed to supporting people of any age, ability or background. They work across the full age spectrum from newborn children, through to older adults.

26. What is a Registered Music Therapist?
26. What is a Registered Music Therapist?
A Registered Music Therapist (RMT) is a music therapist who is registered with the Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA). To be eligible to register with AMTA, a Registered Music Therapist needs to complete a certified university course in music therapy and maintain their skills through ongoing professional development as approved by the AMTA.
Currently in Australia, music therapy training is at a master’s level and courses are offered at The University of Melbourne and the Western Sydney University. The course is two years full time.
To enter the master’s course, students must have completed an undergraduate degree in music or a related health profession with demonstrated high level musical skills.

Yes, while offering collaborative sessions is a benefit of QPAH, we understand that not all children can or need to access multiple disciplines. We also respect the right of our clients to choose their own therapists, whether they are at our clinic or somewhere else.
